As the Senior Landscape Construction Manager with BFFC, April organizes the many parts of the park-building process, which begins with community engagement and continues through ongoing post-construction projects.
April grew up riding center-seat in a pickup truck with a family of gardeners and landscapers, which embedded in her an early connection to plants and the creatures that live among them. She has visceral childhood memories of collecting cicada shells, horse chestnuts, lightning bugs, and string beans — all of which provide a constant reminder for her that landscapes are dynamic places we should not oversimplify.
April graduated from Rutgers School of Environmental and Biological Sciences in 2011 with a BS in Environmental Planning and Design/Landscape Architecture, with a minor in Plant Science. As a student, April participated in public projects centering community voices on topics related to environmental systems within urban landscapes. She often uses artistic media to probe interaction, interpret feedback, and invite deeper observation.
April has been a licensed landscape architect since 2015 and has over 14 years of professional experience designing and managing a kaleidoscopic array of landscape projects from early planning and design through detailed documentation, construction, and ongoing management. Professional practice has taken her to farms, woodlands, coasts, schools, campuses, museums, streetscapes, family gardens, and many other ecosystems. For projects large and small, April prioritizes human scale and aims to create tactile connection woven throughout every landscape. She hopes people notice or wonder about something new on every walk or rest spent outside.
April enjoys ‘making’ of many types, and considers the garden her most interesting palette.
